He’s Back! World’s Largest Rubber Duck Floats Again After Springing a Leak in Hong Kong

The world’s largest <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/giant-rubber-duck/">inflatable rubber duck</a> is back in action after springing a leak and <a href="http://inhabitat.com/giant-floating-rubber-duck-mysteriously-deflates-in-hong-kong/" target="_blank">collapsing into a yellow blob</a> in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbor. A team of experts was sent in to give <a href="http://www.florentijnhofman.nl/dev/project.php?id=192">Florentijn Hofman</a>'s rubber duck emergency mouth-to mouth and a body repair - and now the duck has regained his famous buoyancy and will <a href="http://inhabitat.com/the-worlds-largest-inflatable-rubber-duck-sails-into-hong-kong/scmpost-24apr13-ns-duck1-0424rico1108-jpg/" target="_blank">float around the harbor in Hong Kong</a> until June 9th.

<a href="http://www.florentijnhofman.nl/dev/project.php?id=192">Florentijn Hofman</a>'s <a href="http://inhabitat.com/gigantic-rubber-duckie-floats-down-the-loire-river-in-france/florentijn-hofman4/" target="_blank">lucky rubber duck is making a world-wide tour</a>, having already hit Osaka, Sydney, Sao Paolo and Amsterdam.

The 54 foot yellow duck was welcomed into Hong Kong on May 2nd with open arms and duck mania.

Dozens of duck-inspired gift shops popped up around Victoria Harbor, hawking everything from rubber replicas to tote bags, while local restaurants played into the rubber duck’s presence by offering duck cuisine specials.

The duck’s visit was organized by the Harbour City Shopping Center, which also scheduled the body check and maintenance to ensure it would be buoyant for the long run.

Tens of thousands of people had already made their way to the harbor to catch a glimpse of the <a href="http://www.florentijnhofman.nl/dev/project.php?id=192">inflatable duck</a> as it presided over the Hong Kong skyline before the deflation.

The duck was brought to the city as a way for locals to connect with public art - or simply their inner child.
