• LACMA Transformation-14
Recently completed early this summer, the incredible Resnick Pavilion at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art has since become the world's largest purpose-built, naturally lit, open-plan museum space. The single story temporary exhibition space is stunning design featuring a series of slanted skylights able to flood the interior with natural daylight from above. The completion of the pavilion marks the close of Phase II in a larger master redevlopment plan for the LACMA, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop.

The Resnick Pavilion completes Phase II of a larger redevelopment place for the LACMA called the 'Transformation.'
2
• LACMA Transformation-3
The Pavilion officially opens on October 2nd and the LACMA will offer free admission that weekend in celebration of the new building.
3
• LACMA Transformation-1
The Resnick Pavilion, a single-story, 45,000 square foot structure, is the world's largest purpose-built, naturally lit, open-plan museum space.
4
• LACMA Transformation-5
The natural daylight infuses the interior through slanted skylights in the ceiling.
5
• LACMA Transformation-6
The new space is an excellent programmatic gesture and offers great functional flexibility.
6
• LACMA Transformation-7
Funding for the pavilion was primarily supported by Lynda and Stewart Resnick, who also donated $10 million worth of art.
7
• LACMA Transformation-4
The Resnick Pavilion sits directly north of the Broad Contemporary Art Museum, the LACMA's sister museum also designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop.
8
• LACMA Transformation-8
Both buildings were designed to resemble each other and include the use of travertine marble on the facade, a jagged roof line with skylights, and bright red ducts.
9
• LACMA Transformation-9
The jagged roof line and skylights provide for perfect daylighting, nearly eliminating the need for artificial lighting during the day.
10
• LACMA Transformation-10
Surrounding the two museums are a number of outdoor installations and sculptures along with a palm tree garden.
11
• LACMA Transformation-11
The Broad Contemporary Art Museum features 60,000 square feet of gallery space and is complimented with a distinctive red escalator that transports visitors to the third-floor main entrance.
12
• LACMA Transformation-12
Renzo Piano is also responsible for the third and final phase of the redevelopment, which is still being designed.
13
• LACMA Transformation-13
The Broad will maintain the museum's permanent collection, while the Resnick will be used for temporary exhibitions.
