The unique facade filters solar gain and daylighting

Just 250 square meters, the compact D House comprises a perfect blend of home and landscape, private retreat and party house. The double glazed first floor, which is tucked into the earth, boasts exceptional views of the outdoors, while light wells from the upper floor ensure that plenty of natural light illuminates both floors.

A refreshingly open floor plan is arranged around a floating cooking island and staircase; most of the private quarters are located upstairs, where wood trellises diffuse the daylighting to create intimate spaces that are connected with the wooded landscape. Meanwhile, the facade combines a mixture of glass and wood, establishing an further merging of outdoors and indoors.
