Bethany is not alone in her pursuit. Teaming up with her sister Jenna Mallett, Bethany focuses on the design aspects while Jenna creates nature-inspired and nautical illustrations that embellish many of the products. Designs include napkins, pillows, mirrors, blankets, tea towels and place mats. Materials range from organic hemp and cotton to Tencel and vintage materials. All materials, besides the 100% Fair Trade Kapok used to fill the pillows, are sourced domestically, and the majority of products are assembled locally in New York City.
Stories form an important part of the design process and manifest themselves in various ways. The limited edition handmade barn wood mirrors reflect a personal history: they are made from reclaimed cedar from the family’s farm in Ohio. The Hook Pillow was also inspired by family ties. The illustration is an ode to Bethany and Jenna’s dad, Ed, and all their family fishing trips over the years. On a lighter note, the organic cotton, hand printed Snail Napkins add a twist of humor to the line. A celebration of the slow food movement, the illustration also pays homage to the French for introducing Escargot to our pallet.
