Istanbul has seen its fair share of disasters, especially earthquakes, and this unique design by OODA addresses those concerns with a massive 3-dimensional cross building that also doubles as an emergency shelter. In case of an earthquake or flood, the building is designed to find new stability and safely ride out the earth's dramatic show of force. The Istanbul Disaster Prevention and Education Centre includes facilities such as a planetarium, a theatre and other educational spaces. The exterior is clad in a screen inspired by traditional arabic geometries and works to modulate the interior climate and natural daylight.
