The new Forscherkindergarten Apfelbäumchen (try sayin' that five times fast) school building in Berlin, Germany is designed to be centered around nature. Built by Winkens Architekten, the brick and timber building opens on each end with enclosed terraces that face a grassy hill. Complete with a green roof, the school is an idyllic learning environment, connecting the children to their surrounding nature in a big city.

    I like this design for its green features. I like how the design of this Kindergarten school places an equal emphasis on the building and the outdoor environment. One can see how there are ample views and large windows to bring the outdoors and adequate natural light inside the building. This will increase the children’s l earning capacity and reduce the need for indoor lighting.
