Geometric Tumbleweed Trellis Lets Indoor Plants Climb Up the Walls and Along the Ceiling

Modernism meets the Mojave with "Tumbleweed", a project from French architecture firm <a title="h2o architectes" href="http://www.h2oarchitectes.com/" target="_blank"><strong>h2o architectes</strong> </a>and design house <a title="Compagnie" href="http://www.editioncompagnie.fr/collection.html" target="_blank"><strong>Compagnie</strong></a>. The woven paper and cardboard tetrahedrons create three dimensional structures that provide faceted surfaces for indoor plants to grow upon. Inspired by the shapes of North American desert landscapes, the open, intertwining forms resemble the rolling bushes of the American southwest.

Created by Parisian architect <a title="h20 Architectes - notre equipe" href="http://www.h2oarchitectes.com/equipe.html" target="_blank"><strong>Jean-Jaques Hubert</strong></a>, Tumbleweed is a part of the "Cultivated Furniture" collection from Compagnie.

The individual elements arrive flat, and can to be assembled with eyelets into tetrahedrons.

With the aim of bringing more greenery indoors, Hubert designed the basket-like forms to maximize the amount of surface area to house vegetation. 

Helping to purify the air and reconnect with nature, the project bridges the worlds of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/interiors/">interior design</a>, urban renewal, and <a href="http://inhabitat.com/gardening/">gardening</a>.

Acting like a modernist version of a trellis, Tumbleweed can be assembled to float across the ceiling.

Hubert and Compagnie suggest selecting plants that like to climb to complement Tumbleweed's unique format.
