True Energy just unveiled their Vaccine Refrigerator, a solar-powered fridge that is capable of keeping medicine cool and safe without a connection to the grid. This refrigerator would allow medical professionals to carry much-needed vaccines to communities in harsh climates and hard-to-reach locations. In addition to being solar powered, it is so efficient that it can stay cool for ten days straight without a charge.
The Vaccine Refrigerator uses True Energy’s Sure Chill technology to keep itself cool. It can be connected to grid power, run on just solar energy, or utilize a combination of the two. The Vaccine Refrigerator also has the ability to store power, so it can charge its batteries for long nights while the sun — or a power outlet — isn’t handy. The fridge also has a stabilizing technology that senses the temperature of its surroundings and reacts appropriately to keep the inside temperature stable.
True Energy’s Vaccine Refrigerator can be used to transport vaccines to remote areas in extreme temperatures. It can keep a cool and reliable temperature for ten days without energy, in temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The Vaccine Refrigerator is currently being put to use by MERCY Malaysia, a non-profit that provides medicine — especially vaccines — to vulnerable communities around the world.
