Near Shanghai, the Songjiang district has become a popular weekend destination for many tourists with its natural beauty and sprawling landscapes. And now the Songjiang Hotel might just become the newest and greenest attraction. While it may look a bit sci-fi, this hotel was designed for the real (green) world, with many sustainable features in mind.

Looks beautiful but drenched in inflated hype. Pumping the water out of the quarry to feed their gorgeous waterfall will gobble up electricity. It’s weird to see them spin “the reuse of an already existing site” as some eco-praiseworthy event. And what’s “sustainable” in the context of a hotel? It still looks like an energy hog. Anyway, go because the place looks darn cool, not because of some eco-buzzwords they added to dress up their promotional material. I know I sound bitter, I’m just tired of seeing people get glassy eyed over some buzzwords and supporting less-worthy causes out of some green-guilt knee-jerk reaction. But hey I think people would be better off not buying carbon offsets and instead should donate money to organizations that lobby for environmental reforms. Better bang for your buck. Oh and don’t drink bottled water! Plastic waste/garbage from the package and energy/pullution to have it delivered.

It looks extremely impressive. but i can’t help wonder how those sailing boats will get any wind down there?
Wouldn’t the waterfall work like when you empty a pool with a hose? Once you get the water running it continues. You would just need power to start the flow
wow……..whatever element of this is green……reuse of industrial site……..hydro-power……..daylighting………solar panels……..whatever…….. whoever designed this must have seen the Incredibles. I cant wait for the monorail sphere.
again……..this is the coolest hotel I’ve ever seen………
Wow! Impressive, indeed!

Songjiang hotel looks amazing. BTW, I think there is no man-made waterfall there. It seems to me just a piece of architect structure resemblence like water fall.
