This year’s tree was a 76-foot Norway Spruce hailing from Shelton, Connecticut. The approximately 75-year-old tree made its 70-mile trip to New York City over the last month. The festively adorned tree will be on show at Rockefeller Center until January 7th, after which the tree will be milled into lumber for Habitat for Humanity to build homes.

This year’s event marked the 81st annual tree-lighting ceremony since Rockefeller Center officially started the tradition in the early 1930s. This year’s tree features 15,000 more lights, and luckily these will be powered by a solar power station atop the roof of 45 Rockefeller Plaza.

Spectators and general tourists will be able to see this year’s tree all lit up everyday from 5:30 a.m. 11:30 p.m. On Christmas day, the tree will be lit for a full 24 hours.
