• California Yurt Company
Living more simply is a common ambition here at Inhabitat, and the Colorado Yurt Company makes it easy with their cozy range of colorful tipis and yurts. Tipis are traditional triangular tents that were first used by Native Americans living on the plains, while yurts or gers are durable circular tents initially used by Mongolian nomads who lived in some of the world's harshest natural conditions. These contemporary tipis and yurts take their durability and strength from those original designs and offer an affordable way to live in close contact with mother nature without sacrificing too much comfort. Step on into our gallery for a look at seven of the Colorado Yurt Company's most impressive designs.

Each yurt can be custom designed - more or less - even to match a field of flowers!

What better way is there to experience a yurt but in a colony of them at the base of a big beautiful forested mountain.

Unlike the modern yurts, these days they come in all kinds of different color

Who wouldn't be tempted to move into a tipi - at least for a short while - after seeing this gorgeous photograph?

The amazing thing about yurts is that they can be built anywhere and come down very quickly if it is time to move on.

These 2 tipis have traditional Native American designs which hearken back to the days that they ran the plains.
