8 Recycled Denim Designs for the Home!

Just a few days ago <a href="http://ecouterre.com/">Ecouterre</a> announced 45 spectacular finalists in the <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/about/">Recycled Denim Challenge</a>, which asked readers to submit creative designs that turned old denim into in<em>jeanius</em> new designs. We were blown away by the breadth and skill showcased in the <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/">submissions</a>, and a number of entrants went all-out and designed practical solutions for the home. <h3>Recycled Denim Coasters and Table Setting Mat</h3> <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/denim-coasters-and-table-setting-mat/">Heidi Clark</a> believes there are no creative limitations when it comes to recycling old denim. Channeling a cool country-western aesthetic, Heidi created <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/denim-coasters-and-table-setting-mat/">a set of coasters</a> from the seams of her old jeans, turning the rest of her trousers into a <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/denim-coasters-and-table-setting-mat/">clever mat</a> perfect for any table setting. <h3><a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/denim-coasters-and-table-setting-mat/"><strong>VOTE FOR HEIDI'S DESIGN&gt;</strong></a></h3>

<h3>Woven Recycled Denim Charpai Cot</h3> Commonly used India, the <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/wove-denim-charpai-cot-ready/">charpai cot</a> traditionally uses nylon strings, but in this modern iteration <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/wove-denim-charpai-cot-ready/">Siddharth Hirwani</a> uses recycled strips of denim as the primary material. Three-inch strips have been cut and stitched together to make a roll of thicker material, which is used to weave the central bed on which a quilt or thin mattress can be spread out. <h3><a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/wove-denim-charpai-cot-ready/">VOTE FOR SIDDHARTH'S DESIGN&gt;</a></h3>

<h3>Handwoven Recycled Denim Area Rug</h3> Over the course of six months, <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/giant-handwoven-denim-area-rug/">Alison King</a> converted more than 120 pairs of jeans (sourced from friends and friends of friends) into an <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/giant-handwoven-denim-area-rug/">8.5 × 10.5-foot area rug</a>. Alison cut the all the unwanted denim she collected into long strips, sewed them together using rug braiding techniques, and crocheted herself a 100-plus-pound rug full of everyone’s memories. <h3><a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/giant-handwoven-denim-area-rug/">VOTE FOR ALISON'S DESIGN&gt;</a></h3>

<h3>Recycled Denim Insulating Wall System</h3> <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/insulating-wall-system/">Shannon Wright </a>and her partner <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/insulating-wall-system/">Ryan Sisourath</a> wanted to demonstrate how recycled denim could be used to create an <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/insulating-wall-system/">insulating wall system</a>. Over 100 pairs of jeans were used for the insulation, and the wood framing was made from recycled and refinished wooden skid pallets. <h3><a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/insulating-wall-system/">VOTE FOR SHANNON AND RYAN'S DESIGN&gt;</a></h3>

<h3>Recycled Denim Beanbag Chair</h3> <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/denim-beanbag-chair/">Carla Morai</a> from Portugal turned 10 pairs of cast-off jeans went into this beanbag pouf. Her son loved the finished design, and the <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/denim-beanbag-chair/">beanbag</a> sits happily in his room! <h3><a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/denim-beanbag-chair/">VOTE FOR CARLA'S DESIGN&gt;</a></h3>

<h3>Recycled Denim Seat Cushions</h3> For a witty visual effect, <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/recycled-denim-seat-cushions/">Barbie Shukster </a>transformed her old jeans into a <a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/recycled-denim-seat-cushions/">seat cushion</a>. “The back looks like a large, comfortable butt,” she says. <h3><a href="http://www.ecouterre.com/recycleddenimchallenge/recycled-denim-seat-cushions/">VOTE FOR BARBIE'S DESIGN&gt;</a></h3>
