The ModaFad fashion show takes place in Barcelona every six months and is the culmination of the work of the best fashion designers recently graduated from Spanish design schools.

This year, playing upon the theme of the event - ‘What remains is future’ - they accomplished that with two 4m high robots that stood at each end of the show's catwalk.

Both robots were made of stacked beer crates - a material that External Reference has chosen many times in the past as part of their SuperBox series of work due to its modular and eco-friendly nature.

In addition, no glue, mortar or specialized workers are needed: they simply used plastic straps to tie the crates into a specialized configuration that they planned out beforehand.

The crates used for the fashion show were later dismounted and reassembled overnight to form micro-stalls for another part of the event - the MerkaFad designers market.

As you can see, even the guests' seats were made of beer crates!

And cooler yet? The following day after that, the crates were already on delivery trucks, full of beer bottles.
