Spain’s Largest Vertical Garden Cleans Air Inside Office Building

Vertical garden and green roof dynamos, <a href="http://inhabitat.com/parking-garage-in-spain-gets-a-green-roof-makeover/" target="_blank">Urbanarbolism</a>, have successfully completed another project in collaboration with <a href="http://www.paisajismourbano.com/" target="_blank">Paisajismo Urbano</a>, this time an indoor <a href="http://inhabitat.com/vertical-gardens-by-patrick-blanc/" target="_blank">vertical garden</a> in Elche, Spain. The three story indoor garden is considered to be Spain's largest and also works to clear the air of indoor office pollutants. Located in the courtyard of the office building, employees and visitors alike get to enjoy its green splendor.

The vertical garden is inside a warehouse office building in Elche, the Southeast of Spain near the coast.

Three stories tall, the garden can be seen from each level.

The vertical garden is visible from offices, meeting rooms as well as the main entrance hall.

Plants for the indoor garden were carefully selected in order to fix CO2 and filter out indoor pollutants produced by office materials, equipment and appliances.

The courtyard of the office building enjoys a large skylight, which bathes the interior of the building as well as the vertical garden with light.

Visitors and employees can even enjoy the green wall as they ride in the glass walled elevator.

Toxins like formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloreoethane are commonly found in home and office environments and can lead to "sick building syndrome"

Plants known to help clean indoor air include Bamboo Plant, Chinese Evergreen, English Ivy, Ficus, Peace Lily, Philodendron, and Spider Plant.
