If this is someone's plush toy, we're a bit worried about its owner coming back to get him after dropping him in this Swedish town square! As part of this summer's openART biennale in Örebro, Sweden, Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman built this giant, 13-meter-high yellow bunny using local materials and craftsmen. Located near St. Nicolai church in the city center, Stor Gul Kanin (Big Yellow Bunny) questions the purpose of the public space and changes the perspective of the monuments within.

Many of his installations are large scale replicas of toys and animal set within very public spaces as a way to challenge the concept of the public space.

By enlarging the scale of the installation, Hofman changes the viewers perspective of both the installation as well as the space.

In the case of the Big Yellow Rabbit, Hofman placed the sculpture as though it were dropped from the sky and resting against the Engelbrekt monument. Hofman seeks to ask, “What’s the use and purpose of public space?”

Constructing the cuddly bunny required the help of 25 local craftsman who volunteered for the project.

Hofman considers local help an integral part of his installations, so that the people involved feel as though they are a part of the art work.

The temporary sculpture was constructed out of locally-manufactured shingles, a wooden armature, concrete and metal.
