Moscow Agglomeration Competition Unveils Sustainable Master Plans for the City of the Future

    Moscow authorities recently announced the results of the <a href="http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com/index.php?fuseaction=wanappln.projectview&amp;upload_id=20680" target="_blank">Moscow Agglomeration Competition</a> for the Moscow metropolitan area. The 3-stage international competition called for <a href="http://inhabitat.com/hok-and-woods-bagot%E2%80%99s-langfang-eco-smart-city-master-plan-wins-aia-urban-design-award/" target="_blank">master plan designs</a> for the city that include the existing city development and the design of new city districts (Federal City, Innovation City, Logistics City and Science City). Entrants responded with ambitious urban planning proposals that include massive green belts, high-speed transportation systems and zero-waste, zero-emission buidlings - read on for a closer look!

    Antoine Grumbach &amp; Associes suggested a plan that would consist of the main city, a green protective belt up to 15km wide and a belt of satellite cities organized at a 100km distance of each other.

    The building sites will be concentrated in the west of the metropolitan area with a long-term settlement planned to be built in the east.

    The New Moscow City is due to be completed in 2020 and is planned to provide housing to some 550,000 people.

    The constellation of 8 “gateway cities” will connect the center with the periphery of the agglomeration.

    Vacuum waste recovery systems will be employed to mitigate the need for collection at neighbourhood level.

    Recycled rainwater and greywater will be re-used for irrigation and toilet flushing.
