Jike Idea: Transformable Shipping Container Takes Designers on Tours Across China

The transformable Jike Idea <a href="http://inhabitat.com/architecture/cargotecture" target="_blank">shipping container</a> was created by <a href="http://jike.lvshedesign.com">Lvshe Design</a> to take designers on tours across China. The versatile creation can be converted into a movie theater, tea house or a pavilion, allowing participants in the tours to relax, engage with their surroundings and present their work throughout their travels. Thanks to large circular windows on each side of the structure, the interior of the container is <a href="http://inhabitat.com/yo-shimadas-yamasaki-house-is-a-light-filled-modern-home/" target="_blank">bathed in sunlight</a> during the day and enjoys views of the starry sky at night.

Instead of doors the container features two deployable platforms that establish a direct contact with the ground.

The platforms, acting like terraces, extend the interior beyond the container walls and form an immediate connection to the natural environment.

Removable partitions allow for a more flexible organization of the interior and can transform the structure into a tea house, pavilion or even a movie theater.

Circular windows on all four walls and the ceiling enable natural ventilation and allow the sunlight to reach all corners of the interior space.

Carbonized wood floor isolates the structure from below.

Rainwater is collected via a pipe-based system that connects the ceiling to the floor.

Travelling in a flexible housing unit that can be placed anywhere allows travelers to cross larger distances without having to be cooked up indoors.
