Custom-made by hand at Meijer’s Eindhoven workshop, this elegant storage-staircase was created for designer Just Haasnoot at his historic home in Wassenaar, The Hague. Its industrial yet elegant aesthetic takes inspiration from the black and white photographs of Bernd and Hilla Becher. Made from oak and black steel, it stands in contrast with the pale blue walls and muted tones of Haasnoot’s living area.

The Object élevé has two parts: a more robust standing lower part with a desk with a hidden cupboard behind, and a lighter suspended piece largely consisting of open frames as shelves. Based on the samba system of alternating steps, the staircase can rise at a steep angle but still remain safe and comfortable enough to climb up and down.
