Manhattan’s Luxurious NoMad Hotel Achieves LEED Gold Status

    The beautiful <a href="http://www.thenomadhotel.com/" target="_blank">NoMad Hotel</a> near Herald Square has just achieved <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/city-council-approves-3-billion-leed-nd-willets-point-redevelopment-project-with-5000-sq-ft-rooftop-farm/" target="_blank">LEED Gold status</a>, marking it as a premier eco-luxury property. The hotel, which opened just over a year ago, transformed the landmark Johnson Building into a <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/pinkclouds-pop-up-hotels-turn-vacant-nyc-offices-into-instant-accommodations/" target="_blank">bustling space</a> with popular restaurant and bar areas. Developed by <a href="http://www.stonehilltaylor.com/" target="_blank">Stonehill &amp; Taylor</a>, the renovation was designed to not only incorporate sustainable and energy-saving features, but also to preserve the historic architecture of the iconic building.

    The NoMad, which sits at the corner of Broadway and 28th Street, is an adaptive reuse project that brings a sustainable luxury destination to an unactivated area between Herald Square and the Flatiron area.

    The property not only brings hotel rooms with New York character to the public, but also amenities for locals to enjoy, like a classic cocktails bar, lounge with fire place, fine dining, and a <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/the-empire-state-building-gets-a-9100-sq-ft-green-roof-by-xero-flor/" target="_blank">green roof lounge</a> with views of neighboring historic buildings.

    The sustainable features of the NoMad included <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/unique-marche-concept-reimagines-abandoned-post-offices-as-local-supermarkets/" target="_blank">sustainable reuse</a> of the existing walls, and floors, as well as reclaimed wood for additional flooring.

    Occupancy sensors keep energy usage low in guest rooms, activating only when guests have returned to their rooms.

    High efficiency window and HVAC equipment, dual-flush toilets and water loop heat pumps keep rooms comfortable sustainably. A green operations and Maintenance Plan throughout the hotel helps to reduce toxins and chemicals on a day to day basis.
