Blu Homes Unfolds a Glidehouse Prefab on Vashon Island in Washington

<a href="http://www.bluhomes.com/" target="_blank">Blu Homes</a> recently completed a brand new <a href="http://www.bluhomes.com/homes/glidehouse/#http://www.bluhomes.com/wp-content/uploads/gl-p-WA-10-0014-xxxx-ext-020b-590x4431.jpg">Glidehouse</a> prefab home on Vashon Island in Washington. Although the original design comes from <a href="http://michellekaufmann.com/">Michelle Kaufmann</a>, Blu Homes took over the prefab and added their own touches, adapting it to work with their folding technology. The concept of a folding house may sound strange, but the system allows Blu to significantly reduce transportation costs and maintain quality upon arrival. The two-bedroom home landed on Vashon Island last October and was unfolded in no time.

The buyers of this <a href="http://www.bluhomes.com/homes/glidehouse/" target="_blank">Glidehouse</a> looked into other prefab options, even ones that were built closer to home in Boise, ID.

But because of Blu Home's folding technology, transportation costs from their factory in Massachusetts were still cheaper than shipping from Boise.

Although, now west coast buyers can source their homes from <a href="http://www.bluhomes.com/press-releases/blu-homes-to-begin-building-green-precision-built-homes-in-new-west-coast-manufacturing-facility-later-this-fall/" target="_blank">Blu's new California factory in Vellejo</a>.

The Glidehouse, the crane and the entire crew had to come to Vashon Island via ferry, and afterwards the crew spent a few days unfolding the house, connecting the utilities, putting on the facade and sealing everything up.

The Glidehouse is a 2,300 sq ft, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1-storey home with an optional pod building, which starts at $385,000. T

The home offers stunning views from the living room side and provides ample and smartly designed storage.

Signature glass sliding walls open the house up to the outdoors and the deck to connect with the surrounding environment.

Like all of <a href="http://www.bluhomes.com/about/philosophy/" target="_blank">Blu Homes</a>, the Glidehouse is built with energy efficient systems and non-toxic, eco friendly materials as a way to reduce energy consumption and reduce impact.
