Graham Project-Blue Sky HomesPalm Springs-based prefab builder, Blue Sky Homes has recently completed their latest project - a two-bedroom home in Yucca Valley outside of Palm Springs, CA. Designed by O2 Architecture, the light-gauge, high-tensile galvanized steel home has a small environmental footprint nestled in a rock outcropping and spanning a seasonal stream. Blue Sky Homes' prefab system makes use of 70% recycled steel and also allows the home to be fully recycled should it ever be torn down. In total, the home took 3 1/2 months to construct, which is much faster than standard stick-build construction.1
Graham Project-Blue Sky HomesDesigned for Gordon Graham, the 1,225 sq ft home was designed as a desert retreat from the cold British Colombia winters.2
Graham Project-Blue Sky HomesGraham happened to hear about Blue Sky Homes on his way to the Coachella Music Festival and looked up the builder as he made his way through Palm Springs.3
Graham Project-Blue Sky HomesHe decided on the firm because of both the simple, yet efficient design as well as the ability to have a minimal environmental impact.4
Graham Project-Blue Sky HomesHe also like the Blue Sky System because he could site the home in a difficult and tucked away location and minimize maintenance as much as possible.5
Graham Project-Blue Sky HomesThe home features an open kitchen, living and dining area, with two bedrooms that share a bath and a large steel deck off the front.6
Graham Project-Blue Sky HomesThe parts for the desert home are prefabricated off site then delivered and assembled, which minimizes impact and speeds up construction time.7
Graham Project-Blue Sky HomesThe walls are steel thermal efficient panels made with expanded polystyrene with an extra layer of batt insulation, with a standing-seam metal roof, and clad in HardieBoard and corrugated sheet metal.8
Graham Project-Blue Sky HomesPricing for Blue Sky Homes start at $220 per sq ft up to $320 and include full architectural plans, engineering, all construction labor, and full project management of your home’s construction.9
