PHOTOS: Colorful New Pop-Up Pool and Beach Open at Brooklyn Bridge Park

If the recent string of thefts and random beat-ups at <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/pics-mccarren-park-pool-opens-today-to-swimmers-in-brooklyn/">McCarren pool</a> have got you avoiding that neck of the woods, you now have a sparkling new option at <a href="http://www.brooklynbridgepark.org">Brooklyn Bridge Park</a>. The waterfront park inaugurated the colorful Pop-Up Pool and mini beach designed by <a href="http://spacesmith.com/">Spacesmith</a>/<a href="http://www.davisbrody.com/">Davis Brody Bond Architects</a> at Pier 2 this morning, and the colorful spot even has a changing area made of shipping containers.

The new Brooklyn Bridge Park Pop-Up Pool won't be as large as <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/leed-silver-mccarren-park-pool-complex-to-welcome-swimmers-in-north-brooklyn-this-summer/">McCarren Pool</a>.

The pool measures in at just 30’ x 50’ and 3.5 feet deep, but it makes up for what it lacks in size with tons of style.

In addition to its azure swimming hole, the primary-colored space will feature a sandy beach dotted with yellow and blue umbrellas, a deck, food and drink concessions and picnic tables.

There will also be showers and restrooms situated inside red, yellow and blue shipping containers.

We suspect they might have been recycled from the park's recently-ended <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/shipping-container-village-photoville-coming-to-brooklyn-bridge-park-this-summer/">Photoville shipping container village</a>.

Since the pool is sure to be a splash with parkgoers, officals have capped the occupancy at 60 people at a time and have set up a schedule so that everyone gets a chance to swim.

The rotations are as follows: 10 am - 11:15 am (Mondays and Saturdays), 11:30 am - 12:45 pm (every day of the week), 1 pm - 2:15 pm (every day of the week), 2:30 - 3:45 pm (every day of the week) and 4:00 - 5:45 pm (every day of the week).

The pool itself is totally free but moderately priced learn-to-swim lessons will also be available in the mornings from 8 am - 10 am.

As with all things "pop-up," the Brooklyn Bridge Park pool is a temporary structure, but luckily not that temporary.

according to the <a href="http://www.brooklynbridgepark.org/">park's website</a>, it will be open for 5 years.

To access the pool, head on over to the Brooklyn Bridge Park greenway and look for signs leading to Pier 2.

While the limited swimming times may seem like a bit of a bummer, we're hoping that the rules will help everyone get a chance to enjoy the pool minus the long lines that we saw at McCarren.

Plus there are plenty of other things to do at the park once you're done taking a dip.

From visiting the <a href="http://www.brooklynbridgepark.org/visit/concessions-restaurants">wine bar</a> to taking a stroll through the wetlands or just stepping right outside the pool and admiring the view of Manhattan - so plan on making a full day of it!
