These colorful Husque bowls are crafted using the recycled hulls of Macadamia nuts by Queensland-based designer Marc Harrison. Through the use of local materials and local symbology, Harrison hopes to create a connection between his products and the end-user.
Harrison practices sustainable design by using local materials and manufacturing his products using low-impact techniques and processes. Waste macadamia shells are processed with a polymer to form a dense, malleable material that still contains visible speckles of macadamia in the final product. This creates the wood-like base of the bowls, which contrasts vibrantly with their colored hand-polished lining. Harrison’s Husque bowls are a great example of recycled design, and each one arrives with a pamphlet that explains the history of the macadamia nut and the story of the design’s origin.
