The charity <a href="https://www.plasticoceans.org/" target="_blank">Plastic Oceans Foundation</a> and publication <a href="http://www.ladbible.com/" target="_blank">LADbible</a> want to have the patch acknowledged as a country, called <a href="http://www.ladbible.com/trashisles" target="_blank">Trash Isles</a>, to not only raise awareness, but try to get the area cleaned up.
