Although construction on <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/big-reveals-that-its-new-design-for-two-world-trade-center-is-a-tower-thats-not-a-tower/">Two World Trade Center</a> has yet to begin, it looks like the <a href="http://www.big.dk/" target="_blank">Bjarke Ingels</a>-designed structure is already on track to becoming the <a href="http://www.6sqft.com/2-world-trade-center-could-be-the-most-expensive-office-tower-in-the-world/">most expensive office building in the world</a>. According to the <a href="http://nypost.com/2015/08/05/larry-silverstein-seeking-partner-to-build-2-wtc-tower/" target="_blank"> NY Post</a>, construction costs for the unique, stepped structure could reach a whopping $4 billion, which would top the world's current most expensive office tower, <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/watch-one-world-trade-center-go-up-in-this-beautiful-september-11th-anniversary-time-lapse-video/" target="_blank">One World Trade Center</a>.

Once funding is found, the tower, which will be the last of the four to be built in the WTC complex, will be slated for completion some time in 2020.

If the project ends up costing over $3.8 billion, it will be crowned the world's most expensive office building, taking the title away from adjacent One World Trade Center.

Although the financial side may still be up in the air, the 2.8 million-square-foot downtown tower has already accepted a few well-known tenants, News Corp and 21st Century Fox.
