Das Haus: Striking House of the Future Blends Japanese Design With California Modernism

Every year at <a href="http://www.imm-cologne.com/en/imm/home/index.php">IMM Cologne</a>, a designer is asked to build what they believe is the house of the future. Called Das Haus, this year's concept was contributed by Italian designer <a href="http://www.lucanichetto.com">Luca Nichetto</a>, who borrowed elements of design from modernist architecture in California <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/japanese-architecture/">and Japan</a> and from Carlo Scarpa to create a striking new home that is positively brimming with greenery.

Recently featured at IMM Cologne, this is the home of the future

Das Haus is a modern dwelling that blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors

The home is positively brimming with plants

Natural materials such as oak create a warm, inviting environment

All kinds of plants are featured, including tall evergreens

There is even a small vegetable garden inside!

A lot of the furnishings featured are Luca Nichetto designs as well

Even the bathroom features greenery that freshens it up!

The living room is the "green lung"

Having tall everygreen trees in the living room creates a natural boundary between different functions

Handmade concrete in soothing neutral colors adds to the green aesthetic

Great attention has been paid to the home's overall efficiency and earth friendliness
