Through these striking images Burtynsky unveils the seldom seen side of oil production, and documents the existing effects of oil on our lives. His depictions oflandscapes shaped by its extractionare exhibited alongside the sprawling evidence of its manufactured produce.
Presenting a modern-day “life-cycle” of the fuel that continues to shape the political and physical world, Burtynsky captures these images with an intense clarity and breathtaking depth of field. Expanding on his previous works, such as , he continues to magnify extraordinary landscapes and their multiple uses.
Oil originally opened in 2009, but will make its way to theNevada Museum of Art, opening next year.
