The five landscape architecture firms presented their designs at a public meeting in the Presidio last week, whereupon the project kicked off its “Imagine Phase,” which invites the public to submit their own concepts and ideas for the new parklands and provide feedback on the firms’ designs. In addition to the design of the 13-acre parklands, which will sit above a series of below-grade traffic tunnels, firms were also asked to design a revitalized Crissy Field Center Youth Campus with a new “Learning Landscape,” as well as a reimagined Presidio Visitor Center.

Taking advantage of the site’s prominent views and highly trafficked location, all five firms created multipurpose ecologically minded design proposals that meshed the natural landscape with cultural, recreational, and educational components. The recorded design presentations by each team are available to watch on the presidiosf YouTube channel. The winner of the design competition will be selected in January. The New Presidio Parklands Project is expected to be complete by 2018.
