Fly House: A Fantastic Shipping Container Bed and Breakfast in Mallorca

With cold weather setting in across the States, we're dreaming of vacations in sunny Mediterranean locales - and we can't think of a better place to stay than this one-bedroom B&amp;B in Mallorca. What may not be obvious right away is the fact that it's built from three 20 ft shipping containers and packs quite a lot in to its 104 square meters of space. Designed by <a href="http://www.espaifly.com/" target="_blank">Espai Fly</a>, the <a href="http://www.espaifly.com/index.php/proyectos/interiorismo" target="_blank">Fly House B&amp;B</a> is available <a href="https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/328541" target="_blank">for rent at AirBnB</a> - and with all its great press lately, the incredibly reasonable nightly rental fee is likely to increase with demand.

Located about 10 minutes from the center of Pallma, Fly House is conveniently situated near a number of amenities but it's also quiet and relaxed.

Owned by Balbina and Miquel Angel, the one-bedroom house is accessed via a large entry gate that leads into an ample courtyard perfect for bike storage and a small garden.

The ground floor holds the living area, the bathroom and a kitchen.

The kitchen opens onto the back patio with more dining space and a lovely blue-tiled pool covered with a sail awning for shade.

The entire project was completed in just 6 weeks, which provided considerable savings in time, money, energy and dust.

The interior features a small footprint that is filled with daylight from both sides.

Wood slats on the upper bedroom unit provide a rain screen and shade to help reduce heat gain.

Rainwater is collected from the roof and rooftop solar panels heat domestic hot water.

Energy-efficient appliances and lighting further reduce electricity use.

Fly House was named because all of the containers can be removed and "fly" to the next location.
