A gas explosion rocked an area underneath the High Line this morning, injuring two people. The blast occurred when a crew of construction workers tried to remove a gas tank from a former gas station at W. 14th St. and 10th Ave. The workers were rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where they were treated for cuts and burns but both are expected to survive.

The blast occurred at 10:25 a.m. this morning right beneath the High Line. According to DNAInfo, the workers were transporting a 6,000-pound gas tank from the site. The NY Daily News reports that a source said a worker may have accidentally drilled into an old gasoline line.

Investigators from the Department of Buildings probed the structural integrity of the High Line to make sure it was safe for parkgoers and several nearby buildings were evacuated.
