Hacienda San Jose Lavista is a fairytale retreat in San Miguel Allende

Set in the hills overlooking San Miguel Allende, the striking <a href="http://www.haciendasanjoselavista.com/">Hacienda San Jose Lavista</a> is a beautiful retreat surrounded by expansive vineyards, lakes and wild flower gardens. Designed by architects Jose Seoane Castro and Pedro Urquiza in 2010, the idyllic hotel was designed to pay respects to traditional building practices including using <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/adobe/">adobe</a> as the primary building material.

According to the hotel description, Castro and Urquiza designed the retreat for romantics, and it looks like they hit the nail on the head.

A picturesque Chapel sits on a small pond, creating a picture-perfect setting for weddings or baptisms.

Apart from the chapel, hotel guests can enjoy various interior and exterior patios, game rooms, a pool and plenty of private nooks that look out over the gardens.

Multiple pieces of local art and traditional furniture were used in the interior design of the hotel, another nod to the area's long artisan history.

Using colonial Mexican architecture as inspiration, traditional adobe was used the primary building material throughout the complex.

Using adobe allowed the architects to forgo common structural elements found in conventional buildings.

The buildings walls are 50 centimeters thick, another common element to colonial Mexican architecture.
