Located at 335 E 27th Street in Kips Bay, Manhattan’s first micro-apartment building is a pilot project launched under the Bloomberg administration and the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development in order to address the demand for affordable single- or double- occupant dwellings in New York City. The development captivated the attention of New Yorkers with its prefabricated, 250- to 370-square-foot units, and recently made headlines again when it was announced that the cheapest studios would rent for just $950 a month (depending on the resident’s income). 40 percent of the 55 apartments in the building have been set aside as affordable housing (with rents going up to $1,492 a month), while market-rate studios start at $2,000.
The micro-apartments are airy and filled with light thanks to 8-ft windows and 10-ft ceilings.
With only 250-370 square feet to work with, the apartments employ transforming furniture like sofas/murphy beds that flip out from the wall to make the most of the available space.
Tenants will also be able to enjoy the perks of Ollie, an “all-inclusive living experience” developed by Stage 3, which will come included in their monthly rent. The new lifestyle-integrated living concept comprises things like the luxurious furniture in each apartment, housekeeping, Wi-Fi and cable, and a personal “butler” service.

The open and modern kitchenettes feature stainless steel appliances and chrome Hansgrohe fixtures as well as a small desk that extends out into a full dining table.
A thoughtful storage loft makes smart use of the hallway area, providing extra room for residents to stash their stuff away.
