Looking for a secluded retreat where you can literally hide away from the worries of the world? Look no further than architect Dan Hisel's stand-alone sauna with a mirrored exterior that allows it to disappear into its wooded surrounding. Nestled into the woods on the banks of the Saranac River in upstate New York near the Canada border, the structure blends decadence and nature almost seamlessly.

The Cadyville Sauna seems simple, but the design is quite smart, like Hisel's other designs.

The structure was built from local western red cedar and stones, lending a natural appearance to the little hut that underplays the luxury within.

Hisel designed the sauna in such a way that the natural cliff forms one of its walls, and the hut’s foundation is made from fieldstone, sitting right on the bedrock.

In a manner of speaking, this sauna is as much a part of its environment as possible, short of being carved out of the hillside.

The outward-facing exterior wall is lined with a silver foil panel that reflects the structure’s surroundings - the trees and and other flora that hug the building site.

The mirrored wall also aids in the function of the sauna, acting as a vapor barrier over the insulation and wooden cladding inside the sauna room.
