Philadelphia is getting its first Shake Shack and while the eatery is being prepared, a lush vertical garden masks the site so as not to create an eyesore for locals. Designed by Philly-based Shift_Design, the living wall installation covers up the unsightly construction zone and boring plywood walls and instead brings a pop of green to the neighborhood. Both Shake Shack and Shift_Design are committed to sustainable business practices and this living wall is just another example of their eco ethos.

Shake Shack is set to open their new Philly restaurant in the beginning of the summer at 2000 Sansom Street (corner of 20th and Sansom), near beautiful Rittenhouse Square in Center City.

Until its complete, they've got a temporary wall up around the construction site.

But rather than let that be a boring old plywood wall, they asked Philadelphia-based designers and living installation fabricators, Shift_Design, to create a totally unique living wall to cover the construction site.

The vertical garden is reminiscent of the burger shack's first permanent kiosk which was covered in ivy to make it more harmonious with its location in Manhattan.

Shift_Design's installation features an array of custom panels and planters made from recycled steel filled with varying types of ivy, seasonal flowers, trailing vines, and evergreen shrubs.

The installation and the signage gives passerby something more pleasant to look at and breathes a little fresh air into the busy street.
