Nervous System’s Ethereal 3D-Printed LED Leaf Lamps Shine Light on Natural Design

Befitting the <a href="http://inhabitat.com/biomimicry/">biomimetic design</a>, the lamps are dubbed <a href="http://n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/shop/product-unique.php?code=99">Hyphae</a>. The delicately formed lamps perfectly balance high-tech manufacturing techniques with natural forms, and their green credentials go beyond <a href="http://inhabitat.com/biomimicry/">biomimicry</a> and <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/3d-printing/">zero-waste manufacturing</a> - each lamp is fitted with an energy-efficient 3 watt <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/led/">LED bulb</a>, for ambient illumination with very little energy use.

<a href="http://n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/">Nervous System</a> is a "generative design studio" that harnesses cutting-edge technology to create art, jewelry, and housewares modeled after processes found in nature.

They develop computer programs that replicate the patterns found in growing leaves and other flora.

Then they use 3d printers to replicate these forms in elegant designs that are simultaneously organic and ethereal, lightweight yet strong.
