The 14,500-square-foot, pre-World War I warehouse and its adjacent municipal parking lot will be transformed into a self-sustaining complex, producing much of its own food and drink with its very own small-batch brewery and rooftop garden. The green-minded team behind the venture includes Brooklyn-based David Cunningham Architecture Planning, Mabu Design’s Matt Burgermaster, RAFT Landscape Architecture and Brooklyn Grange.
“Our goal for The Whitechapel Projects is to present the foundation for a truly remarkable gathering space where community members and guests alike savor house-made cuisine and an ever-changing nano-beer selection, while enjoying an amazing schedule of year-round events, art and entertainment,” said developer and property owner Preston Casertano. “Budding with opportunity, Long Branch is poised for growth and development, and is the perfect location to support a progressive destination like The Whitechapel Projects.”
The Whitechapel Projects’ progressive-minded mission combined with a prime beachside location is expected to be immensely supportive to the local economy of Long Branch, New Jersey, a previously grief-stricken area post-Sandy. The much lauded soon-to-be tourist attraction will feature the artisanal talents of executive chef James Mignola, former executive chef at certified Green restaurant Pigalle in Manhattan, and head brewer Michael Dolan, who will lead the production of a rotating selection of small-batch beer.
