17John “Cotel”: Prodigy Network Unveils Winners of NYC’s First Crowdsourced Hotel Competition

Earlier this year, <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/prodigy-network/" target="_blank">Prodigy Network</a> led NYC's first crowdfunded and crowdsourced hotel competition - and now they've announced the winners! Designers from all around the world were asked to redefine the future of the hotel industry by designing the <a href="http://inhabitat.com/17john-design-the-worlds-first-crowdsourced-hotel-and-win-50000-in-prizes/" target="_blank">17John Cotel</a> (short for collaborative hotel). Prodigy Network's experimental contest sought crowdsourced designs for everything from private suites and collaborative public areas to the hotel's digital services.

Located at the heart of the Financial District, 17John is a 1920s art-deco building that will be expanded to include a new 23 story tall glazed rooftop extension to consist of 191 furnished units for both short term and extended business stays.

The Cotel will be targeted at the next generation business traveler and offer streamlined digital services as well as co-working and networking spaces.

A jury selected the winners from a pool of 70 proposals from over 20 countries with input from public voting for a total prize of $50,000.

The winning proposal also includes a sleek roof terrace with recessed light bands and a striking nighttime view.

Weco, The Nomad Company's Vianney Lacotte was selected as the private space winner.

The guest suite design is notable for its flexible open-plan layout and extra amenities, such as ample storage and kitchen area, to better accommodate long-term hotel guests.
