
Located in the heart of the Financial District, 17John is a 1920s art-deco building that will be expanded to include a new 23-story-tall glazed rooftop extension consisting of 191 furnished units for both short term and extended business stays. The Cotel will be targeted at the next-generation business traveler and offer streamlined digital services as well as co-working and networking spaces. A jury selected the winners from a pool of 70 proposals from over 20 countries with input from public voting for a total prize of $50,000.
HUB’s Pierre Levesque won the public space contest with his wood-paneled lobby, multiple co-working area options, and a sleek roof terrace with recessed light bands and a striking nighttime view. Weco, The Nomad Company’s Vianney Lacotte was selected as the private space winner. The guest suite design is notable for its flexible open-plan layout and extra amenities, such as ample storage and a kitchen area, to better accommodate long-term hotel guests.
