Formerly known as the Tijdelijk Restaurant (Dutch for ‘Temporary Restaurant’), this eatery opened back in 2008 as a short-term project, but is still going strong today. Located in the old changing rooms in the repairs department of the Dutch electronic manufacturer, the space oozes 1970s nostalgia under its cold industrial skin.

The concept was born from the minds of local entrepreneurs Mirale Loonen and Jan Hein van Melis. Their entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with Jan’s previous catering business experience, led the duo to handle everything from cooking, cleaning, and serving guests, to leading the entire restaurant’s renovation.

Bright orange plastic containers create a curious contrast against the almost untouched industrial backdrop. Along with hanging metallic lockers, piping, tiles and some of the original factory furniture, the ceiling’s ventilation openings allow for fresh air to enter the space.
The restaurant’s kitchen is a fully-equipped glazed box behind the counter. That is where Jan prepares the five types of organic fondue they offer. Along with fondue, there is a choice of fresh salads and soups, all made from seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients.

If you happen to visit or live in the ‘City of Light’, don’t miss out on this this delectable, unpretentious fare or its gemütlichkeit 70s setting, open weekly from Thursday through Saturday.
