Nathan Sawaya LEGONYC LEGO fans won't want to miss famed brick artist <a href="http://brickartist.com" target="_blank">Nathan Sawaya</a>'s latest batch of incredible <a href="http://inhabitat.com/10-perfectly-pixelated-lego-sculptures-pop-up-in-nyc/" target="_blank">LEGO sculptures</a>, which popped up last week at <a href="http://www.discoverytsx.com/" target="_blank">Discovery Times Square</a>. Called “The Art of the Brick,” the exhibition is a tour through Sawaya's creations depicting famous art works and sculptures throughout history using the colorful bricks. The installation, which is Sawaya’s largest to date, will be open to the public until January 5, 2014.1

Nathan Sawaya LEGORembrandt’s famous lighting is captured in a LEGO “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” with gradating hues of brown and cream LEGOS, a plastic bubble taking the place of the pearl in question. Van Gogh’s swirling “Starry Night” and “Mona Lisa” look almost accurate when standing at a distance, but up close the blocky LEGOS are arranged in a grid.6
Nathan Sawaya LEGOFor Klimt’s “The Kiss” and “Whistler’s Mother” were taken to the next dimension, built into oversized <a href="http://inhabitat.com/thomas-poulsom-makes-wonderful-north-american-birds-using-lego-bricks/" target="_blank">LEGO sculptures</a> that stand over four feet tall each in 3 dimensions.7
Nathan Sawaya LEGOFurther into the galleries is Sawaya’s sculpture garden, with <a href="http://inhabitat.com/mike-doyle-makes-massive-space-age-city-from-200000-legos/" target="_blank">LEGO renditions</a> of famous works like Michaelangelo’s David, Queen Nefertiti, the Sphinx and a giant Easter Island Maoi face.8
