The ambitious Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller-backed Pier 55 elevated island park is one step closer to fruition following the dismissal of a lawsuit trying to block the project. According to DNAinfo, the Army Corps of Engineers recently approved the permits needed to begin construction on the floating green oasis designed by Heatherwick Studio.

Conservation groups accused the project's organizers, namely Hudson River Park Trust, of misusing New York parkland for financial gain since more than half the events would require an admission fee. (Images via Pier55, Inc. and Heatherwick Studio, Renders by Luxigon)
