• Roel De Boer's tree house pod
Dutch designer Roel de Boer has come up with a novel housing concept that would bring urbanites closer to nature while lifting them up above the urban chaos of the streets below. Unlike the eco-luxe treehouses we commonly feature here at Inhabitat, de Boer's tree pods reduce the home to its bare essentials, providing little more than a place to rest your head. The weatherproof pods are arranged in organic shapes that rest close to the trunks of urban trees.

Imagine a city of living-pods on trees instead of one filled with shaped concrete... sounds crazy but also, rather healthier.

Imagine having to climb up a tree to get to your cocoon-shaped home… we would be much healthier and far from the chaoes below.

“Imagine a tree house that is reduced to the essentials. A place to sit and a place to sleep (…) This is the place where I want to nest.” Comments the designer.

We could share things and services with other inhabitants, owning less and creating a more social place to live.

The rest, “the house superfluous”, like the restaurant, teahouse, cinema, sauna or library could be found outside, nearby.

The designer didn’t quite get onto how to DIYit, but it looks that will be an inflatable mould shaped around the tree, covered with a waterproof mix of recycled cardboard and, many windows… for a city of trees.
