Built to accommodate the almost 3 million Ningbo Labor Union members, the cultural hub is split into two separate buildings that are terraced downwards toward the center of the site, where a landscaped park link to the two spaces. Accessible green roofs cover several of the stepped building volumes to create a checkered pattern of green space. The expansive mixed-use center will not only include arts centers, retail, library, and office space, but it will also house an aquatic center with an Olympic-sized pool, a full-size basketball court, two indoor tennis courts, 10 badminton courts, and a fully outfitted gymnasium and table tennis center.

The Home of Staff center marks schmidt hammer lassen architects’ third project designed in the city of Ningbo, including their winning bid to design the city’s new library. The Labor Union cultural hub is slated for completion in 2016.
