Secret art in abandoned subway tunnel makes statement about gun violence

    Artist and activist <a href="http://philamerica.com/">Phil America</a> is taking gun violence to task with his latest underground art installation. <em>The Perilous Fight</em> is a series of flags embroidered with firearms, each meant to represent specific acts of gun violence in America. Art lovers be forewarned: anyone wanting to check out this very <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/tag/subway-art/">clandestine art exhibit</a> must find their way through a dark and unmarked path leading to the abandoned subway tunnel that houses it.

    The illicit details of placing the artwork in the tunnel included gaining access to get a feel for the space, running through the tunnel on live tracks, and carrying quite a bit of materials along the way such as generator, lights and all of the artwork.

    As far as alienating his art lovers becauseof the clandestine location, well, the artist says that he's confident that determined groups of NYC's urban explorers will make it to the exhibit if they want to see if bad enough.
