Sticks by Hou de SousaNew York-based architecture and design studio <a href="http://www.houdesousa.com">Hou de Sousa</a>'s rustic <em>Sticks</em> pavilion is now on display in Socrates Sculpture Park. The winning design of this year's <a href="http://archleague.org/2016/07/folly-2016-announcement/">Folly architecture competition</a>, <em>Sticks</em> is a wooden pavilion constructed out of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/tag/repurposed-materials/">scrap materials</a> found on-site at the popular Queens park.1
Sticks by Hou de SousaFitting in nicely with the sustainable mission of Socrates Sculpture Park, the Sticks structure is made out of standard dimension lumber with various scrap wood pieces found on-site incorporated into structural grid.2

Sticks by Hou de SousaAccording to the architects' description, the load of the pavilion was evenly distributed by continuing the roof onto an existing shipping container.4
Sticks by Hou de SousaA pathway runs through the open-ended structure, again using the shipping container as a support wall.5
Sticks by Hou de SousaThe Sticks structure is open to the public.6
Sticks by Hou de SousaSticks will be used as a hub for art students participating in Socrates Sculpture Park’s Education Studio program.7
