The 8-ft-wide alley was converted into an 800-square-foot office for DeLeon’s design business.
The workspace is so thin that it has a half-address.

Although DeLeon has since moved her offices to Manhattan, she still lives by many of the same design techniques she employed in her Edgewater location, and offered the following advice to those looking to create tight but functional and attractive environments:
“It’s important to use vertical space. By doing that, you can really utilize the negative space you have on hand and get cabinets and other furniture off of the floor by using hooks and mounted shelves and storage.”

“I really believe that less is more,” she continued. “It’s good if you can purge as much as you can, but if that’s not possible, clear furniture and lucite furniture are another way you can open up your space since light passes right through them.”
We hope you enjoyed this virtual tour of Vanessa’s offices, and that you can use some of her tips in your own space.
