Tightly Knit: The Best Green Designs From Tent London 2010

  • Giant Knittig Nancy by Superblue
    <a href="http://www.tentlondon.co.uk/">Tent London</a> is one of our favorite annual events at the <a href="http://inhabitat.com/london-design-week/">London Design Festival</a>, and this year didn't disappoint as many of the exhibitors combined cutting-edge technology with traditional craftsmanship to create some fantastic green designs. Visitors to the show were greeted by the playful <a href="http://www.superblue.co.uk/">Giant Knitting Nancy</a> -- a "social sculpture" that offered the perfect introduction to over 200 emerging and established designers housed in the old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane. Read on for our favorite designs from day one!

  • Chicken Coop by Nogg
    The <a href="http://www.nogg.co/">Nogg</a> chicken coop was designed to facilitate homegrown food in any urban or rural garden environment.

  • Bravais Armchair by Lazerian
    <a href="http://www.lazerian.co.uk/">Lazerian's</a> Bravais Armchair is constructed from corrugated cardboard made from locally-sourced recycled pulp.

  • Eco Rocker by Shell Thomas
    The Eco Rocker by <a href="http://www.shellthomas.com/">Shell Thomas</a> is a flat-pack cardboard rocking horse made from recycled paper.

  • Wilson Pendant Lamp by Wola Nani and Simon Maidment
    The Wilson Pendant Lam is a collaboration between the South African charity <a href="http://www.wolanani.co.za/">Wola Nani</a> and <a href="http://www.kingston.ac.uk/pressoffice/news/123/22-09-2010-design-that-makes-a-difference.html">Simon Maidment</a> (Kingston Univeristy Design Department). The lamp is made from pressed paper and designed to have a low production impact.

    <a href="http://www.uselessrethinking.com/">Useless ReThinking</a> designed the No. 152 Box, which can be broken down into its non-square component parts and re-assembled in any free-form style imaginable.

    <a href="http://www.sebastiancox.co.uk/">Sebastian Cox's</a> Kerf Chair relies on the shrinkage of sustainably-grown wood, rather than glue, to create structural stability.
