Trek-in prefab cabin offers luxury sustainable lodgings for campers

<a href="http://www.trek-in.org/" target="_blank">Trek-In</a> is a prefab cabin designed for campers and those seeking solitude in beautiful natural surroundings. Designed by <a href="http://www.moodworksarchitecture.com/" target="_blank">MoodWorks Architecture</a> with the help of <a href="http://www.kristelhermans.nl/" target="_blank">Kristel Hermans Architectuur</a>, the Trek-In is built from FSC-certified wood and features a compact but efficient design, perfect for a family vacation. Inside you'll find sleeping for six people, a small kitchen and bathroom, plus windows to take in the surrounding views. Trek-In cabins are located on campgrounds all throughout the Netherlands to provide sustainable luxury accommodation for campers.

The pitched roof design allows for increased sleeping space while the solid wood exterior provides protection from the elements.

<a href="http://www.kristelhermans.nl/werkervaring/bouwteam-trek-in/" target="_blank">Trek-In</a> is a cross between the traditional architecture of a home and a tent.

The prefab unit is built from FSC-certified wood and many reclaimed materials are used as well.

Trek-In was originally designed as part of a competition at the <a href="https://www.tue.nl/en/university/departments/built-environment/the-department-of-the-built-environment/" target="_blank">Department of the Built Environment of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)</a>, in the Netherlands back in 2010.

You can rent a <a href="http://www.trek-in.org/locaties/" target="_blank">Trek-In cabin at nine different locations</a> around the Netherlands, or purchase one for your own yard.

Guests can store their gear above the sofa or out in the closet or storage bench on the deck.

Each Trek-In is outfitted with a kitchenette with a three-burner stove, refrigerator, running water and kitchen utensils.

Two built-in double beds and a convertible sofa bed and table allows six to sleep in the Trek-In.

All the lighting is by LEDs and operable windows allow for natural ventilation.

Windows on either end and a skylight fill the interior with daylight.

The bathroom has a shower, toilet and washbasin with hot water provided by a high-efficiency boiler unit.
