View this mesmerizing LED art installation from a distance to reveal its delightful surprise [VIDEO]

This hypnotic LED light installation by light artist <a href="http://www.jimcampbell.tv/">Jim Campbell</a> is beautiful from any angle, but take a step back and you'll see the piece's hidden surprise that makes it truly captivating. On display this week at the <a href="http://brycewolkowitz.com/h/">Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery</a> booth at the <a href="http://collectivedesignfair.com/">2016 Collective Design Fair</a> during <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/index.php?s=nycxdesign">New York Design Week</a>, the mesmerizing art piece had show-goers doing a double take with its subtle secret. An MIT graduate with a degree in computer engineering, Campbell translates his technical expertise into <a href="http://inhabitat.com/?s=led+art">LED artworks</a> that have moved audiences all over the United States.

Though he is based in San Francisco, one of Campbell's most famous installations is "<a href="http://www.jimcampbell.tv/portfolio/public_art/scattered_light/">Scattered Light</a>", which illuminated Madison Square Park in Manhattan in 2011.

Do you see the swimmers?

Part of Campbell's "Exploded Views" series of <a href="http://www.jimcampbell.tv/portfolio/public_art/exploded_views/">LED sculptures</a> that beckon the viewer to take a step back to see the full extent of what the piece has to offer, "Swimmers" appears to be a simple cascade of lights upon first look.

Though they appear as shadows formed by some of the bulbs going dark, the images actually begin as film before Campbell, who began his career as a filmmaker, translates them into the computer program that controls the <a href="http://inhabitat.com/?s=led+art">LEDs</a>.

But when viewed from afar, the pattern programmed into the lights - a group of swimmers taking a dip under the sea - becomes evident.
