The days are getting cooler, the leaves are getting crisper, and fall is in the air. For many of you out there, this means just one thing: back to school! I just started back to school this week myself, and I’m pretty excited about it. Our friend Allan over at Core 77 started back to school last week as well, as a teacher at Pratt. Coming from the unique perspective of a design professor, the advice is really provocative. Often students focus their anxiety on the wrong stuff, and I think this carefully honed list (of exactly 1000 words!) is a great reminder of the important things in a design education: getting your money’s worth, working hard, and making the most of it. So read up! It’s definitely the kind of stuff I wish I had read earlier on in my academic career…
For those of you who don’t know me too well, I’ve just started back for my second year of a Masters of Architecture program, and I’m really looking forward to the upcoming year. I’m going to be spending the next several months focusing on sustainable housing – my favorite subject on the planet – AND the best part is that I scored the urban recycler LOT-EK architects as my main professors, so I will be working with them for the next four months. I can’t wait.
I will try to bring what I learn back to Inhabitat as much as possible and of course bring Inhabitat into the classroom as much as possible, as well. The rest of the Inhabitat team will be keeping you up to date on the wide variety of green design events and tradeshows coming up in the next couple months, so there will be lots going on to look forward to.
